Keeping abreast with the motherland and the era

                       ---Fact-finding report on CYLC thematic education programs

   2006 was a year in which the CYLC held a nationwide education program on keeping abreast with the motherland. With education on ideal and faith as the core, the education focused on the socialist concept of honour and disgrace and theme of study, creation and dedication. 

Active participation of young people

　　 After launching in April 2006,the CYLC CC developed a series of key activities, including Chinese Youth May 4 Medal winners to issue the proposal: “I’ll forge ahead alongside the motherland;” conducting a practical action month of model youth organizations to keep abreast with the motherland; organizing the program of youth performance in new countryside construction, and giving repertoire reports on advanced deeds of university graduates who went enterprising at grassroots level. They also involved the program of ushering into good adulthood after 18; the program of “I grow in the course of national development;” inviting the nation’s top ten youths into the school campus to share their successful experiences in adulthood; community youngster education, as well as the program of “my strivings alongside with the motherland—voluntary service month”.

　　League organizations in all sectors and localities made full preparations and many young people took an active part, thus extending widespread influence in their activities.

　　Over 100000 young workers in more than 1700 provincial youth model organizations in Northeastern China’s Liaoning Province were involved in the program. More than 3000 events drawing more than half a million participants participated in 2000 school-based activities. Urban areas developed community youngster education program series. Young Pioneers held thematic meetings and exhibitions on socialist concept of honour and disgrace.

　　League organizations at all levels in Eastern China’s Shandong Province organized rural, enterprise and community youth participation in the program. In the countryside young farmers implemented the program with business activities and  new countryside construction. In urban communities, migrant young workers served people of all circles. College and university students also took an active part. 

　　Contributions through the program  

　  When the China International Technical Intellectual Co-operation Corp inaugurated its program of striding along with the motherland and the enterprises at the Capital Museum in Beijing, participants remarked, the program was informative on Chinese history and Beijing’s folklore culture. Young people should arm themselves with knowledge, erect innovative ideas and contribute more to building a harmonious society.

　　Provincial League organizations fully mobilized the enthusiasm of all prefectures and cities, enterprises, colleges and universities, villages and towns.

Beijing developed programs like Welcome Beijing Olympic Games 2008 with model service and Reading to know honours  from disgrace.

Eastern China’s Shandong province sponsored a forum on migrant young workers development and new countryside construction, and started migrant young workers’ technical training programs.

Hebei, Henan, Jiangxi, Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces also organized topical educational activities.

Further reinforce the study

In Liaoning Province, Dalian city held a forum to aspire the university students, Dandong city held a quiz on provincial and municipal information, and Yingkou, Tieling and Liaoyang developed a cartoon contest, a flash work contest and a TV article contest on the outlook on glory and disgrace.

Activities like forums, special theme discussions and thematic class meetings were held in Jiaxing city of Zhejiang Province to help youngsters understand and grasp the importance and rich connotation of the socialist concept on honours and disgrace.

The moving story of Liu Fangyan, a student of Jingmen Occupational Technical College who endured hardships pursuing her studies while supporting her stone-blind mother was known all over the prefecture of Central China’s Hubei Province. Liu said, “My mum brought me up and I’ll take good care of her. The Party taught me and I’ll study hard and remunerate society and all those who cared about me and offered me help with the knowledge I acquire.

　　In practical activities, League organizations in all fields and localities were keen on innovating the forms to draw general participation of young people. On the other hand, young people composed songs of youth one after another in the new era, basing themselves on their own spirit, behavior and meritorious service. 

　　Starting in June, the CYLC CC came out with the “serial activity of singing aloud the song of youth in the new era --- in my strivings alongside the motherland.” This included collecting  songs, organizing interviews with Youthful China practitioners, introducing the list of heroes and heroines, collecting articles and youthful archives, building network exhibitions, etc.

　　Young people at Tianjin Alkali Factory  participated in the work to recover used nails and tidying up coal raw materials sites and scrap iron. They recovered a total of over 100 nails, cleaned up over 300 kg of scrap iron , thus making cost-effective contributions to the enterprise with practical action.

On their own efforts Nankai University students composed and rehearsed a drama depicting the different living conditions of young people from the May 4 Movement of 1919 to the new period, arousing strong repercussions among the fellow students. Participants in the rehearsal said they further strengthened their cohesion in that process.

More than 60 young Party members and CYLC members with the China Textile Industrial Design Institute visited the Tianjin-based Memorial Museum of the Peiping - Tianjin Campaign, where they held League activities in memory of the martyrs, inheriting their wills to work hard and remunerate the motherland.
