In January 2007, Chinese Yvs were sent to render voluntary services in Africa, 15 to Zimbabwe and 10 to Seychelles.
Recruits for those to Seychelles came from Guangzhou. They fulfilled technical training, psychological tests, psychiatric monitoring and linguistic improvement as fit for expertise overseas service. Composed of five doctors, three nurses, one teacher of music and one teacher of the Chinese language, the team was to give medical and educational service in Seychelles for one year.
Recruits for Zimbabwe came from Shandong Province. The group of 15 was composed of a doctorate, five Master-degree students, and Xu Benyu, a Shandong young bigwig elected as one of the ten top moving figures in 2004 in China. They would render a one-year-long voluntary service in Zimbabwe in animal husbandry, agricultural processing, Chinese language, computer and athletic teaching as well as in traditional Chinese medical service. I n November 2006 President Hu Jintao announced at the opening of the Beijing Summit of China-Africa Cooperation Forum that China would send 300 young volunteers to Africa in the next three years. The project was to be implemented by the Communist Youth League of China Central Committee, the Ministry of Commerce and the China Association of Young Volunteers. |
