2008 Scoreboard of Chinese University Competitiveness

On February 25, Wuhan University’s Scientific Assessment Research Center (SARC) rolled out a scoreboard of Chinese university competitiveness in 2008. Jiangxi Lantian College ranked first out of all 260 privately run colleges covered in the scoreboard. Lantian was listed as the top for the second time after being listed as such on the 2007 scoreboard in the 2007 China Alumni Net.

The Wuhan University SARC is an interdisciplinary academic research organ integrating scientific research, personnel training and assessment services. It released the first scoreboard in 2004, and it has attained abundant results in its researches. SARC director Professor Qiu Junping made a special note on the scoreboard. The 2008 scoreboard covered personnel training and teaching facilities in its assessment index system, not too much different from the previous generally speaking, he noted, adding that as far as private colleges are concerned, school credit, teaching features, and name brand development are getting more and more important. A good brand name and specialties with special features are of course the most important invisible assets of a private college. Hence, a private college must continue to improve its teaching conditions, making it unique and creditable.
